Allergy Season

Keeping your office as free from allergens as possible

Those in the know have already performed an early spring cleaning of their offices, getting rid of salt stains and the grime tracked in on floors and carpets from our harsh winter. But now we need to talk in depth about allergy sufferers, not only those facing early spring allergies but those reacting to year round allergens.

Pollen is a trigger for spring allergies, causing such symptoms as runny noses and itchy, watery red eyes and in turn that can make it difficult for those allergic office staff to concentrate.  As we walk into our offices pollen is tracked in on our shoes and shed off of our clothes and where does it end up, but adhering to everything in the office as pollen is a sticky substance.  This is why State Building Maintenance advises your office to set up a daily cleaning routine to make life easier for your staff.

Not only is pollen a culprit in making life difficult for those suffering from allergies but general organic spills from beverages and food can in themselves create problems.  Moisture left unattended can cause mould and mildew to grow. Mould and mildew pose serious health risks and will exacerbate asthma symptoms.   Asthma is a life threatening disease.

A person can shed enough skin in a day to feed a million dust mites. Some people are allergic to the fecal matter that is left behind by dust mites causing such allergic symptoms as wheezing, coughing and stuffy, runny noses.  A deep vacuuming of all carpets, rugs and soft materials is essential   A steam cleaning of carpets and soft materials is what is actually needed to kill off the dust mites.  Remember, we spend many hours in the office, dust mites do not just live in your home.  Allergic reactions to the fecal matter can trigger serious asthma attacks.

Pollen, spills and dust mites, contributing factors to allergic reactions,  are difficult to keep on top of unless a cleaning regime is set up to include, a thorough daily cleaning of your offices, a deep vacuuming, daily, of all carpets and upholstery and a program set up on a regular basis to steam clean your carpets and soft materials.  Please let us help you keep your office allergen free.

Spring Cleaning

Start fresh this spring, begin with a thorough spring cleaning.

The snow has melted and we are now looking at the remnants of what a harsh winter has left behind, the salt and grime that we have tracked in that have become embedded in our carpets and floors, not to mention the fine particles of gravel that your footwear brings in that etch your hard floor surfaces.  It is a great time to clean the office from top to bottom.

If your office entrance is carpeted and you have salt stains, it is time to treat the carpet by using vinegar with a rotary machine (vinegar is used to break down the chemical composition of the salt stains).

You need to continuously scrub the salt stained areas until the salt stains have been removed, then you will need to steam clean that area before you continue to clean the rest of your office.

It is recommended that you do a rotary cleaning to the rest of your office carpets then steam clean them to extract the dirt and residue.

It is time to let the sunshine in. A thorough cleaning of your exterior and interior office windows and frames in the early spring will add sparkle to your office.

Winter probably wasn’t too kind to your floors.  Dirt, salt and other substances from winter have probably left their footprints.  Spring is a good time of the year to do a full cleaning of your hard surface floors.  After a thorough floor cleaning, your newly cleaned floors need to be protected by refinishing them.

Dust loves to live in your light fixture, your vents, diffusers and blinds.  These objects need to be vacuumed and then hand cleaned.

Winter office cleaning tips for your business

It’s winter time, is your business ready?

Keeping your workplace clean and healthy during the winter months is extremely important.  In addition to sand, slush and salt, winter is also a time when infectious illnesses increase amongst employees.

Maintaining clean and dry entrance ways are an extremely important element in keeping a safe winter workplace.  The salt and dirt dragged in from the outdoors can make your office dirty and can cause permanent damage to floors and carpets.  Slippery floors are extremely hazardous to your employee’s safety.  It is important to keep mats in the entrances and to ensure that hallways are regularly checked on and that water is quickly cleaned up. We recommend steam cleaning your carpets to ensure that pollutants are removed from your carpets.

Air quality in your office is another important part of your workplace’s environment.  Indoor air can have up to five times the amount of pollutants than outdoor air.  In the winter this air will circulate continuously throughout your workplace.  The first step is to ensure that your heating systems are properly maintained. Buildings will often collect more dust in the winter due to windows needing to be closed.  A professional duct cleaning will aid in getting dust out of your workplace.

In addition to cleaning all surfaces our team will clean hard to reach areas such as light fixtures, vents, ceiling fans and anywhere else dust can live.

Our office cleaning team are there to help keep your office clean and safe in the winter.   Our team of Office and Commercial Cleaning professionals have been providing high quality cleaning services since 1963.
